How MailPing Works
MailPing is an Intelligent Mail Tracking system designed for precise delivery and open confirmation within the Gmail Web Application. It works by injecting a tracking image URL into your email message.
Currently, only the Gmail Web browser interface supports inserting external images via direct Web Address (URL). Gmail mobile apps and most third-party email clients do not provide this functionality.
Step 1 — Create a Tracking Link
After signing in, navigate to your dashboard and create a new tracking link.
- Optionally assign a label for your own reference.
- Click Create Tracking Link.
- Copy the generated image URL.
Each tracking link should be used for a single email message.
Step 2 — Insert the Link as an Image
MailPing requires the tracking link to be inserted as an image via Web Address (URL). This functionality is available in the Gmail Web browser interface only.
- Open Gmail (Web Application).
- Compose a new email.
- Click the Insert Photo icon.
- Select Web Address (URL).
- Paste your tracking image URL.
- Click Insert.
If the link is pasted directly into the email body as text, tracking will not function.
Understanding the Timeline
MailPing provides a structured timeline of network events for each tracking link.
- Link Activation — The tracking link was generated and tested within Gmail.
- Link Inserted — The image was successfully embedded in your outgoing message.
- Proxy Activity — Infrastructure-level image retrieval (typically Google image proxy).
- Open Activity — Confirmed image render event indicating message open.
All activity is recorded and displayed in chronological order for technical transparency.
Important Notes
- MailPing is optimised for the Gmail Web Application.
- Tracking links must be inserted using Gmail Web (browser version).
- Signals originating from the sender’s own mailbox are automatically ignored.
- Tracking links should not be sent to the same email address that created them.
- Not intended for bulk email marketing or automation platforms.
- One tracking link per message is recommended.
Troubleshooting
- If no activity appears, confirm the image was inserted via Web Address (URL).
- If only proxy activity appears, the recipient has not opened the message yet.
- If multiple events appear, the timeline reflects full network behaviour.
